Your Path to Recognition in Digital Education
Stage 1: Apply & Enter Candidacy
Your journey begins with an application and submission of your institutional profile. Whether you’re a new virtual academy or an established digital university, IACDE welcomes institutions of all sizes and missions.
There is no minimum time in operation required to apply for Candidate Status. However, before being considered for full accreditation, institutions must demonstrate at least one year of operational history supported by student outcomes and institutional data.
Once your application and institutional profile are approved, you’ll receive Candidate Status, marking your entry into IACDE’s collaborative pathway. From there, your institution will benefit from personalized mentorship, resource access, and preparatory support to ensure a smooth and successful journey toward accreditation.
Stage 2: Submit Self-Study & Undergo Peer Review
At this stage, Candidate institutions prepare and submit a comprehensive self-study report, showcasing how they meet IACDE’s rigorous quality standards in online education.
The self-study examines every aspect of institutional performance—from curriculum design and faculty qualifications to student support, governance, and digital infrastructure.
Following submission, an independent, fully virtual peer review is conducted. This collaborative review process connects your team with seasoned evaluators and educational leaders who understand the unique challenges and opportunities of digital learning.
Through this process, you’ll gain valuable insights and recommendations that not only strengthen compliance but also enhance the overall quality and sustainability of your programs.
Stage 3: Achieve Accreditation & Maintain Compliance
Upon successful peer review, the IACDE Commission issues a final decision on accreditation. Achieving accredited status affirms your institution’s commitment to excellence, innovation, and ethical practice in online education.
